Wild Edibles Hike

Day hike, Edible Wild Plant Discovery and lunch on the first weekend of Spring ($25 PP)
Saturday, March 17, 2012, 9-12PM CST

Some of the BEST FOODS in the world are FREE!! There are many reasons why folks are interested in eating edible wild plants. Some prize them for their nutritional values and organic nature. Others like the wild taste, and some consider the identification of edible plants a sound survival skill. Heading down to the blackberry briar for summer picking is part of many a Tennessean's youth. However, there are so many more wild, edible plants just waiting to be discovered, tasted and treasured.

David and Sharon began their love for wild foods over 18 years ago. They have read many books on the subject and have attended a few workshops and are always bringing a new plant back to their library to learn about. Though they are avid organic gardeners, a season doesn't go by when they aren't picking, eating or preserving some the wild goodies that God planted.

Description: We'll meet in Butterfly Hollow and hike and explore several areas to inspect this spring's early green delectables. You'll see and sample from plants you pass by everyday. The moderate hike will be approximately 1 mile and does include a few inclines. We'll end the journey back at the bed and breakfast and use some of the goodies we've collected and prepare a delicious organic salad, sandwiches and/or soup, accompanied with homemade bread and sassafras tea.

What to Bring: Prepare for the weather; if it is cold, overdress so you are toasty; if it is raining, wear rain gear and a wide-brimmed water resistant hat. Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes that can get dirty. If you are comfortable, no matter what the weather, you will have more fun.

How to Reserve: Advanced reservations are required. Enrollment is limited to a small group of people so we can keep the hike personal. Please call or email to put your name on the list and then use the Registration Form to reserve your spot.
